ELIZABETH CAPRA

I am Elizabeth Capra- a composer/performer/teacher residing in New Mexico. I am devoted to composing classical contemporary music. I love thinking about what will resonate with an audience, especially with regards to film scoring and writing for piano and ensemble. In 2019, I was named the International Piano Guild Composition Competition (Special Category) Winner.  At the recent 2019 Women Composers Festival of Hartford, I was thrilled to be invited to share two pieces I wrote for solo piano and mixed media, focusing on immigration. I was awarded second and third prizes in the Golden Key International Composition Competition in 2018 and 2019 and performed in Vienna at the World Composers Concert. I find it crucial to give back and scored the 2019 NM Women in Film annual philanthropy project, a PSA to benefit a victims of domestic violence.

I have studied piano and composition for most of my life, winning the NM State Honors Competition at age sixteen. I have been fortunate to have encouraging teachers and an incredible mentor- the composer Michael Mauldin. Because of this, I have devoted much time to work with the next generation of composers and was the composer/ mentor on the 2018 George R.R. Martin grant project, NM Girls Make Movies. I founded the NM Composers Showcase, bringing new music and choreography to Albuquerque. I created the Nob Hill Community Concert in the Park series, now in its third year, to provide a free outdoor classical concert to a neighborhood with a widely varying population.
